Charizard did win though. It got more votes than the other Kanto pokemon it was competing with.
I don't even like Charizard (have always veen a Venusaur fan personally) but the obsession with it is founded purely on intentional misinterpretation of facts.

Not really. A lot of Gen 1 Pokemon are iconic. Charizard is competing with the other Gen 1 starters, Eevee, Pikachu, Mewtwo, Lapras, etc. while Greninja is competing with Sylveon....and....uh.....what Pokemon were in Gen 6 again?
