ok took me half the night and i have a headache but here’s mine. shedinja’s my partner but it’s too OP for the role of gym leader/strength tester so it’s just on my personal or champion team. the gym is a monastery and the trainers are sages and channelers. no puzzle but you have to beat them all to get to the leader. the badge is a circle because life and death are like that. yeah long hair, i’m a guy though

I had this idea for a gym where every battle is a double battle, but gimmick is that you can try to control what pairs of trainers you fight each battle so the goal is to try to keep the opponents from synergizing to make things easier for you.

So like one battle could be against a strong attacking trainer with an offensive support trainer, but then the next battle you might be able to pair a weather set up trainer with an attacking trainer that can't use it, but then depending on how you chose earlier battles you might get forced into some headache like a stall+hax battle.

Might be an idea that would work better as a battle facility gimmick though. It would be a very complex idea for a one and done gym gimmick.

Erie temple ruins built around an oasis. Every time you battle someone everything changes. After you win the room fills with sand, forces you out. Everyone has disappeared and the oasis has dried up. When you head back into town, people act like no one has been there for years.

Type-themed gyms are boring as fuck, they have been done to death, there are a million other ways to do gyms, and all of them are infinitely more interesting than making the entire gym instantly lose to a pokemon of a specific type. (or several)

If I could be assigned an ai that isn't stupid as hell, I'd theme the gym strategies around "unkillable" combos, though if I need a superficial theme, I'd go with a yellow gym just because many pokemon I like are also yellow.

In singles, this would be various setup sweepers, such as White Herb + Shell Smash Minior, Swords Dance SubSalac Mimikyu, or Power Split + Acupressure Shuckle. It's really funny how often you can sweep entire teams with Acupressure Shuckle on showdown. If they don't immediately switch to a strong setup sweeper or have a taunt user on hand, I find a lot of people will just lose the ability to deal with it through rests after some defense/evasion boosts, which are legal under evasion clause. Also, all unaware pokemon can be pp stalled, since putting yourself to sleep or using Rollout is absurdly pp efficient, Acupressure has 48 pp, and Rollout can one shot things if they try to spam switches.

Then there's doubles, and my main gimmick would be Shuckle (my favorite pokemon) using Guard Split to make various already difficult-to-kill pokemon very difficult to touch. The easiest and most straightforward one is eviolite Chansey, but if a yellow pokemon is needed, I'd use Cosmic Power+Stored Power Sigilyph instead. With three teamslots, I could use Ampharos alongside Copycat Minun and spam Magnetic Flux for +2 def/spdef for both of them every turn. Ampharos has RestTalk and Minun has Wish+Protect to keep them going, but if one dies, Shuckle can come in and make the other fairly permanent. From there, Ampharos can stack charge beams or Minun can spread Toxic, and both Sigilyph and Mimikyu learn Psych Up for more shenanigans. Toss in something to burn steel/poison types and you're good to go.

>trainer classes are people throughout the story, ancient people during the time of arceus, priests, etc. They're all technically illusions, however.
>gym badge is a copy of Arceus' "gates" on his back, the other side is seemingly a portal to the distortion world, with giratina's tendrils coming out.

it's a maze but worse with secret paths and deadends and locked areas and the correct way through would be to get the key from a high-difficulty trainer who jumps you from entering the opposite side of the building's hidden door
