Pokedex entries are weird and outlandish due to the fact that they are filled by the trainer. in RGY oak sends you out with his latest invention, the pokedex. he wants you to see all the pokemon he has never seen before. if he just invented it how would there be existing data for pokemon never before seen?

Everyone seems to think that Ash's father is a great trainer on a journey and that's where his natural talent comes from.
But I think the more likely scenario is Delia is where he gets his skill from. Think about it: she was 19 when she had Ash. Which means she had 9 years of being legally allowed to be a trainer (Trainer license at 10).

Exhibit A: Mimey. Mimey is mentioned to be powerful for a Mr Mime, Ash even couldn't catch it. Meanwhile Mimey immediately took a liking to Delia. Canonically, Pokémon are naturally drawn to strong trainers. Ash was talented at the time but was rejected, yet Delia was accepted so quickly? Not only that, it's never hinted she actually caught Mimey, yet Mimey will happily go to battle for her. That means it's a wild Pokémon that actively chooses to fight for a trainer, which is practically unheard of in the Pokemon universe. Only trainers of the highest talent have ever been able to accomplish that.

Exhibit B: Delia is strongly hinted to spend the majority of her time at home and never practices battling. Yet in every instance she's shown battling, she's extremely competent. In a S&M episode she is on par with Ash in terms of ability. But she was using a Pokémon that wasn't hers and she had never battled with before. Despite this, she still knew the 'mon's moves, and more than held her own against a gang of trainers by herself before Ash started helping. Meanwhile Ash had been battling for weeks at least with his Pokémon, and was fresh from a multi-nation journey. How could someone so theoretically rusty and out-of-practice do so well? Especially a housewife? Unless she's hiding something.

Exhibit C: in a side episode that focusses on Pallet Town, Butch and Cassidy start making trouble which causes Delia Tracey and Prof Oak to start to battle them, her skill impressing Tracey. At one point when Tracey voices his disbelief at her ability, she quips: "even Ash will tell you skill runs in the family" him. Seems like an off-handed joke at first, until you remember she had just shown great talent as a battler to the point of impressing Tracey who had travelled with Ash and watched Ash save the world. He would know what a good battler looks like. And there's no way she could be referring to Ash's father because she outright states that Ash is so good because she is so good.

None of this even goes into what happened in anime episodes I haven’t watched (AG-Current series)
My theory is Delia is one of the greats in Pokéarth. Or at least Kanto. In her glory days, she could very well have been Indigo League champion, if not having travelled the globe much as Ash has been doing and actually succeeded in becoming Pokémon League Champion in several regions. After say 8 years of making her way to the top, she decided to settle down and start a family. Maybe just do some battles for fun as she raised her child. But something went wrong. Ash's father [it's implied they never married because Ketchum is her maiden name] perhaps passed away or decided he couldn't stand living in her shadow and walked out. This forced her to completely give up battling and become a full-time mother to Ash. Raising him alone or perhaps with help from Prof Oak [who obviously knows her talents because they've known each other since she was young and he is not the least bit surprised when she shows her battling skills]. Leaving us where we are today. Delia Ketchum, a legendary trainer living under the radar and hiding in plain sight in her own hometown in the middle of nowhere. Where no one would think to look, and the locals she grew up with help protect her privacy.

He's canonically never lost a battle until the player beats him. Another character who's Leon's rival is stated to be able to easily become the champion in another region if he ever moved, and the only reason he's still a gym leader is because he's fixated on beating Leon.

Arceus is not omnipotent, and used up the majority of its power creating the universe. This is why it can still be battled and caught like a regular Pokemon, and also why we never see it perform any amazing feats of strength. Creating a new Giratina/Dialga/Palkia is impressive, but Arceus can only do it once and merely creates them at level 1. If we venture deep into headcanon territory one can even argue Cyrus knew of these limits on Arceus’ power and decided to go for Dialga/Palkia instead because of them.

tldr arceus is like brahma from hinduism or whatever hes called i skipped a couple of my world religions classes

Alola isn't mainland, and japan doesn't really consider it america in anything but name.

Anyway all of the unova mons can easily be found in kalos and galar, dex entires even reference certain ones being native like purrloin to galar.
Also this explains why the unova dex is almost completely devoid of any american themed pokemon.

There is a loose one world government, but its hold on power is tenuous and most regions are largely autonomous/self-governing. The federal government is based in some lightly populated place similar to the Indigo Plateau. The government is completely separate from the Pokemon League/gym trainers/etc, which are just a form of recreational sports/industrial complex that nonetheless has considerable social influence.

Pokemon are regularly used in global armies complete with armor/helmets/etc. (p sure this is confirmed though, and the anime full out acknowledges it)

Arceus is not omnipotent, omnipresent, or omnipotent. It's just a powerful interdimensional being.

Legendary's aren't actually caught it's just a game mechanic. An encounter with a legendary is something that might happen to 1-2 people in a generation. Myths/legends of people who have supposedly caught legendary's in the past drives the industry to look for them and these people are basically cryptozoologists

Pokemon are not naturally friendly nor do they enjoy battling at first. They are just wild animals you have to break and tame. IRL Pokemon don't murder all normal people because technology has evolved to the point of making them largely harmless unless you're out alone in the woods with self-defense tech,

The world largely exists without much concern for Pokemon, we only see things from the perspective of pro pokemon trainers/battlers.

The reason the Alola protagonists come off as space cases is because they’re Kantonian natives, and Kanto (being based on Japan) speaks a different language than Alola (based on Hawaii USA). They’re not actually zoned out, it’s that they don’t understand the language the natives are speaking. So they just blankly smile and allow themselves to be dragged around because they don’t want to offend the locals on accident.

Pokemon and Humans are basically like Angels and Humans/Lillins from Evangelion.

While humans and normal animals are carbon-based lifeforms, all Pokemon are made up of Infinite Energy (what is used to power the Kalos Ultimate Weapon or Devon was using to reroute the meteor). This Infinite Energy persists everywhere in the Pokemon universe, which Pokemon use for attacks (creating infinite water), their appearances (all pokemon share the same DNA from Mew and with humans, but their different appearances comes from how they express themselves using that energy), their typing (certain Pokemon have an aptitude for certain types), and their growth.
To elaborate, levels are a way of measuring the Pokemon's skill at manipulating Infinite Energy, moves are recorded manipulations and PP is how often they can repeat these manipulations before being too exhausted to do so. Levels may also mark how much energy the pokemon has been absorbed during manipulation and manipulated (attacked), and Evolution may occur once enough energy has been stored.

In pokemonworld, a 10 year old is considered an adult. Spending 9 years travelling across the region becoming a champion is plenty of time to get your fill of life, and then decide you’ve had enough and want to become domestic. Not much different from moving out at age 18 and then deciding you want to start a family at 27.
