Sometimes I think GameFreak legitimately believes Ice is an overpowered type because they keep either doing this or giving us Ice E4 members.

I thought it was because ice types are almost always found in the later game. Ice areas are never early game locations.

Don't forget that some of them don't even have an attacking stat over 100 like with Lapras or Aurorus (AKA the Pokémon that was punished for being obtainable early-mid game as opposed to late).

is there even a good ice type pokemon? aside from dewgong i cant think of one. froslass and weavile are kinda fast but not enough to outdo their obvious weaknesses. crabominable has a great attack stat and movepool but its frail and slow making it pretty much useless

It's not a rule you know, you could have the ice cave on route 4 and ice be the second gym.

Locking ice into the late game and second gym is the same meme as slow bulky physical attacker.

Has there been an early game Ice Gym, yet? Considering that 2/4 of its weaknesses (Rock & Fighting) can be found early in games, it only makes sense. Really, I wish we could have more shakeups of the Gym progression formula, or, rather, abandon mono type gyms entirely.
