It's essentially a shopping mall that you can make sell premium services if you keep it up. From medicine to berries to EV training to friendship. You can get pretty much everything from Join Avenue. Unironically a kino feature.

Gen 5's biggest crime is being bloated with so much connectivity crap that doesn't work anymore, and actually barely ever worked at all except for a very limited time and only if you regularly rode the Tokyo subway.

And even then it was 90% bullshit/pointless anyway.

Amie does buff your pokemon with chance based stuff, kind of playing around anime idea with asspulls etc. It's pretty fun.
