Just take a break buddy, I didn’t really play any pocket monster for five years and now I got 70 hours on Black, play throughout started for yellow and shield, got my battery’s replaced in silver and emerald and just bought ultra moon.

I love Pokémon, been playing since I was just 4-5 years old back in the early 90s.

I’m only hunting shinies because I intend to use Swampert and Zapdos competitively and I love those two Pokémon in particular very much.

Gen 5 was atrocious, they’re nearly unplayable. Gen 6 almost lost me too but ORAS was the saving grace.

I put money in to go because I spend so much time playing it. I get a lot of useful and interesting Pokémon I can transfer to mainline games and I love the human aspect of Pokémon, it reminds me of how I felt as a kid at Burger King trade nights in 1999. Like other people love these games as much as I do.

I’ve been on a break for awhile but I think I’m just at a bad spot between familiarly and being tired. I’m excited as hell for BDSP in November, I haven’t played Gen 4 in awhile and am particularly nostalgia for those games now.

I’ve found my lack of desire to finish games comes more from game selection rather than age. I thought it was just me getting older as well when I found myself asking “why do I care if I complete X task in Y game”, but when I fired up older games that I hadn’t played before it was like when I was younger and I had no issue putting in multi-hour completionist sessions again. Newer games just aren’t as fun, because the stories aren’t engaging and the gameplay isn’t challenging in the right way. Instead they waste all their time on graphics and cinematic scripted events.
This might be the same for you.

Than don’t worry about it, I had black in my library for years before one day said “hey I kinda feel like playing this rn”, and thank god I went with black, it was absolute kino, definitely what I needed out of Pokémon in my 20’s.

Not long, I'd say since Ultra Sun and Moon came out. I played Shield recently and found it pretty underwhelming too, haven't touched it for a while besides online competitive battles. The GB/C and GBA games don't have boxes sadly so I'm trying to get them. Luckily I bought all the games at good prices. Pic related is some of the games I have so far, might buy the spinoffs maybe. Just haven't been big on collecting so it looks pretty boring.

It kind of is in that regard. I'm more likely to play something straight from my childhood and finish it than I am to pick up something new and make it even halfway through the game. I guess it never helped that Pokemon and something else were all I played until when I was about 14.

So not very long than, I too tried to play the newer games in my hiatus and found em to be boring, and don’t let the youtubers make you thing you need some big awesome collection, I used to do that and it sucked, now I have just one shelf of games that I’m pretty proud off and I’m steadily adding things too, but yea, if I were you I’d just push Pokémon out of your mind until BDSP, go in fresh.

Also, If you or anyone else wants to add me on 3ds go right ahead, was messing around with it tonight and I realized I have zero friends :(

Yeah, I realize it's not a very long break, I've been playing a lot of romhacks and other games entirely. I haven't got to the 3DS games yet but when I do I'll add you. I'm going through the games and I'm on Gen 4 right now. So I've been focusing on the DS. As for BDSP, I'm not overly enthusiastic despite Gen 4 being my favorite. I guess it's just the initial trailer leaving me feeling skeptical as well as the lack of information overall. Hopefully there's more info on the way.
