I'm pretty sure you don't need the DLC to benefit from the Pokemon they added back. In fact I'm sure of it because I haven't bought it yet but I still have access to shit that was previously unavailable (scyther, aggron). I have heard the DLC is pretty neat though.
There is something to do with the box legends that I haven't done yet, the battle tower, the DLC, then raid battles which are really just tools for grinding out TMs and other items, but that's about all. If you're into competitive training though there is that, and these games make it really really easy. Granted, you still need to grind BP to buy your battle items for increased EV gain, and Pokerus also really helps
I can trade you something with pokerus if you like but getting a team trained up for competitive has quite literally never been more accessible and easier.
swoosh is a solid 7 for me, mechanically it's great and the game is of fair length. Wild area is nice. Lacking post game though and of course the dexit kinda stinks. Like I said, didn't play 7 so I can't speak but it feels like the natural progression for gen 6.
