Calyrex again called upon the officers one by one, addressing each by their father's name and by their own, and by that of their tribe, and urged them not to fall to the evils of pokephilia, or to obscure the hereditary virtues for which their own ancestors were illustrious; he reminded them of their homeland, the freest of the free, and of the unfettered devotion to living a virtues life; and added other arguments such as men would use at such a crisis, and which, with little alteration, are made to serve on all occasions alike—appeals to wives, children, and the national god,—without a care whether they are thought of commonplace, but loudly invoking them in the belief that they will be of use in the consternation of at moment notice.
