Pokemon battles are fucking braindead:
>"Trainer X is gonna send a Y type pokemon">*You send a Z type pokemon wich is strong against Y types*>*You one shot the enemy with a super effective move*>repeatMost JRPG are fun because you play a full party with each character having a role (damage/heal/tank/(de)buff...).
In Pokemon, most battles are 1v1 so when you're not attacking, it feels like you've wasten your turn, plus, pokemon don't have enough HP, so they go down in 1-2 super effective moves without any buffs, so they really are useless.
Tldr:
>Give way more HP to pokemon to make them more durable>Nerf super effectiveness so the player has to use his brain instead of just mindlessly pulling paper when the game tells him the opponent is gonna pull rock>Make fights constant 2v2 or 4v4>Get rid of the 4 moves rule so your pokemon can have buff and healing moves without wasting attack slots
