I like him. I'm not a crazy religious watcher of the Pokemon Anime, so maybe I'm missing something, but I don't see what the issue is. He's funny, works hard, and gets skill checked constantly. His insecurities also don't hold him back so it's not like he's a mope or anything. Two main characters is fun.
