What kind of uncreative naming shit is this?
Let me guess, in next generation games the Gym Leaders are named after their respective type specialties as well.

i'm actually ok with this. a lot of the names didn't make sense or were unnecessarily complex imo. like the soul badge, the marsh badge, the rainbow badge... just call them the rock badge, water badge, electric badge, grass badge, etc.

it's easier that way.

The gen 1 badges like those are mistranslations though. Every other badge was named fine, they made sense and was generally creative.

Meadow, Splash, Blaze, Spirit, Grapple, Fae, Snow, Precipice, Punk, Scale.

There I came up with unique names for all the gyms in the game in like 2 minutes, this isn't an actual issue.

It’s because Galar’s league has an increased emphasis on the gym challenge as a spectator sport.

Just having the badges be named after the types makes it much easier in-universe for two reasons:

1) Makes it easier to understand the progress of challengers for spectators - what badge they have is synonymous with what Gym Leaders they’ve bet

2) Galar’s Gyms rotate in and out of Major and Minor Leagues, so every year the badges change. Past badges had names that could realistically apply to many types (Fantina’s Relic Badge and Maylene’s Cobble Badge could easily be Rock-type, the infamous speculated swapping of the Marsh and Soul Badges, Storm Badge doesn’t exactly sound Fighting-type) so having 18 Badges named after their types is much simpler than having to remember if the Dogfucker Badge is Fairy or Dark.
