Another thing I'll like to add is that the "goofiness" is because Pokemon aren't supposed to be too much of one thing. The idea of Pokemon is that every single one can become your friend no matter how scary they are at first glance, so adding less cool details to make them more approachable. This was the logic of way it doesn't have its flames in Amie. Of course Game Freak for some reason decided that it shouldn't have its flames during it's idle battle pose either even though battles are the one time it should always have the flame out. Even then, Game Freak seems to know they messed up because Legends will likely fix this considering Cyndaquil's flames in the trailer.
Also, people have wondered about the flames having shadows, but I've always thought that they were quills that were on fire instead of just pure fire, which would explain why they look so different than the flames on any other fire type. (as to why the quills aren't there when the flames are out, it could be that the quills get folded back and blend in with the rest of their fur).
Also, I've never seen that card before; I'm saving it because it looks awesome.
