Half marks for Sceptile, mainly just because of Mystery Dungeon giving that special character treatment to Grovyle
Greninja because it leans in too heavily on the ninja thing for it to feel natural
And all of the galar starters/most of the alola starters because it reached a point where they leaned more heavily into giving the starters a blatant characterisation and niche. Arguably you could say it started with Gen 5, but the elements were subtle enough in back then (with the characters including themes of noblemen, samurai and warlord respectively, without it being blatant) while also avoiding complete humanisation (being the last generation before every starter just so happened to become bipedal by its final stage), and Delphox/Chesnaught get overshadowed by Greninja anyway.
