Even as a ten year old I thought things were fucked up when there every bug attack in the game was exclusively on Beedrill and no other Bugs.
Imagine my disappointment when I heard we finally got a good attack in Megahorn and it was stuck on Heracross.

The stats and movepools of the early generations are really good indications that the series was never really initially meant to be competitive or balanced with multiplayer being more focused on trading than battling
