Gallade senses its opponent's thoughts to predict attacks, but it isn't supposed to be emotional in that way. Also, it being in that location is terrible because presumably the red plate is a vulnerable weak point and it's just sitting there on its chest with easy striking distance.
I think I'd put it on the head where the head spike is now, shaped in such a way that it is somewhat guarded from easy blows
