>>47407002Yes, but it was poorly implemented. Megas require a hold item and only work on certain Pokemon, so it greatly restricts team building and team preview. If your mega has a bad matchup, you basically can't bring it, but then you're still fighting with a disadvantage.
The good thing is, they clearly learned their lesson. Z-moves were universal; you weren't constrained to using the enumerated set of Pokemon GF wanted you to. And Dynamax went even further, by dropping the hold item requirement. You can now dynamically pick the best Pokemon to use your once-per-battle super on based on the current state of the battle. I hope that gen 9's gimmick maintains the universality of Dynamax.
