Infernape is like Axe Raider in Yugioh. He was THE beater for when he was introduced, and then he was immediately outclassed almost instantly when new stuff came out, AKA Gen 5.

Nah, Fighting-types were probably at their best in Gen 5, mainly because Conk, Terrakion, and especially Keldeo were all fantastic but performed specific roles Infernape could fill much better. He was too generalized and his speed tier got a lot more crowded, not to mention Blaziken getting speed boost and both Latis dropping down into OU.

None of that stopped Infernape from being competitively viable. It even had an exclusive niche in Gen 6 OU as a hard counter to Bisharp and Weavile.

I don't think Sceptile will ever be viable.
It can't be a special attacker, since it will be outclassed by Serperior.
It can't be a physical attacker, since it will be outclassed by Rillaboom.
It can't even be a defensive mon since it will forever be outclassed by Tangrowth.
There's no reason to run Sceptile over other grass types, not even in lower tiers, not even in VGC.

Well. it's still going to be terrible.
SD Scep is outclassed by Virizion
Specs Scep is outclassed by Decidueye
there's almost no reason to run Sceptile anymore, I honestly think it'll drop to ZU in gen 9.
