It's a spin off. The new catching mechanic had mixed reception. And the worst thing about it might just be that it's Kanto again only now the story is even stranger because you take over Red's role but Red is already a character in the LGPE universe. If only it was some sequel after GSC/HGSS.

You can battle legendaries and other static pokemon, but random wild ones are GO capture only.
