I mean, if you look closely at the pokemon setting, it would be pretty dystopian; with the whole world relying so heavily on 2 companies (which later merged into one as of gen 5), the world seeimgly being controlled by a single government, with "regions" effectivly being states with a slight about of indipendence, etc etc. But the games dont explore that because they dont have to and would feel out of place.
A china based region in pokemon would have stuff like beautiful misty mountains, gorgeous ancient architecture, a not-great wall, deep forests, bustling cities with shop owners around every corner, and a blistering desert off into the east. Only the good stuff. The most "commentary" a china based region would have is the sharp transition between giant cities and low tech farming villages
