It's pretty well-established at this point that Pokemon attacks are elemental magic that function differently from the actual thing. Regice won't be harmed by regular fire and magic, but as a creature of the Ice element, it takes extra damage from attacks that use Fire elemental energy.

It works just like any other magic system where magic follows these rules, but regular materials don't.

Except the franchise literally does show that "types" are elements and that Pokemon moves are magic.

Gen 8 in particular goes into detail with it this; with Morpeko's electricity changing into Dark-type energy when it transforms, Kubfu producing "Fighting energy", Dragalge converting sunlight into "Dragon energy", and Regidrago literally being made of dragon energy.

So yes, Pokemon moves are magic, not the literal thing. Earthquake isn't a literal earthquake, it's magic.

Not really. Since the expunged themselves of the shit shudo threw in as he was making a generic anime in his mind, they've been consistent in how they portray elemental weaknesses (the charizard chilling in the hot springs bit, a Garchomp taking Ash's other pokémon to the highest point of Alola, to a snow-covered mountain and not instantly fainting) and even retconned Shudo's "the sprinklers killed onix" by re-doing the scene with the new lore to do the EXACT same thing as in the OS. Fact is, it takes more than just a bit of water to do anything but drench a pokémon to the point it induces the effects of Soak.

You basically just repeated what I said, like you are saying waters from a sprinkler are reproducing the effect of Soak. So Soak isn’t “magic water energy that imbues the target with water energy”, it’s dousing the enemy in fucking water

OP is trying to argue that there's a fundamental difference between Pokemon attacks of (element) and (element) because Fire and Rock type Pokemon aren't harmed by drinking/or swimming in water, only when a Pokemon is actually attacking them with a water move. Yet multiple times we have seen them vulnerable to (element) when used as an attack (ex: Meowth throwing buckets of water onto Brock's Onix to weaken it). We also see that Pikachu can be charged by normal electricity and power a hospital as well. "X energy" is just dumb headcanon, Pikachu just shoots electricity period.

Season 1 bullshit that's been retconned doesn't count. In the newer seasons, Rockruff's tail gets lit on a fire by a Flamethrower, and it jumps into the water to put the fire out.

And no, "X energy" is not a headcanon. The games have been bring it up more and more recently.

While I agree with you that some moves are magic like. Earthquake in particular consist in apply the power of that magic in order to shake the earth, the entire effect is a natural byproduct, not magic.
