Champ in the making guy has been casualizing the game since gen 1.

Heck, champ in the making guy doesn't just tell you what types to use, sometimes he'll even tell you the overall strategy or stat trends of the gym leader, too.
Champ in the making guy's only downside is that he's a coomer, so he won't help you fight Erika, he's too busy fapping in the casino.

but the difference is he doesn't literally tell you where to go to catch the pokemon you need and also isn't a mandatory cutscene.
it would be like if in gen 1 when you enter vermillion gym the guy would stop you and say "hey did you know electric type are weak to ground types such as diglett? you can catch a diglett in diglett's cave to the east"

BW is good
BUT
The beginning of the game up to Pinwheel is the worst part of any pokemon game. They legitimately thought the player was retarded enough to need a grass/water/fire tutorial for the 1st gym. I hate it so much on replays. The tutorial is supposed to be done at the second town, not the second gym.

Explaining game mechanics to new players is important, at least gen 5 had the decency to give you a challenge mode when you beat it, made it the only game worth playing a second time if you aren't into nuzlocke

Challenge mode was a nice thought but it was implemented in the worst possible way. If you unlock it, you cannot play the game from the start on the new difficulty, you have to transfer it to another cartridge which means another DS system. And if you transfer challenge mode to White 2, you cannot use that game to transfer it back to a blank Black 2, it MUST come from a completed Black 2 cartridge.

and poor people out there think that Gen 5 was the peak of Pokemon
BW2 were already kind of meh, Gen 6 was the worst by far, 7 got better and 8 I have not played

This. Gen 5 and 6 are the embodiment of the downfall but at the very least we ARE recovering since Gen 7.

although gen 5 is fairly difficult, the first quarter or so is very railroady
gym 1: they spent a gym making a tutorial for type matchups, something that should be explained in like 3 or 4 lines of dialogue in the beginning of the game, or even a trainers school which was executed well in sm/usum
a hard to miss npc also gives you the specific type monkey to counter the leader
in the second gym op explained it
and bw2
the first gyms in bw2 is actually fine and doesn't railroad too much
the second one, an npc next to the gym literally tells you the exact pokemon which is perfect for countering roxie
