>>47436121Hop and Hau were actually sort of on opposite ends of the cheerful friendly rival scale. Their only real similarities outside of animations were being friendly, brown, and being related to a strong trainer.
Hop was actually quite competitive and was raised to be competitive. He took his losses seriously to the point of ditching and revamping his teams for advantages. His story ended with finding a new goal after realizing that he shouldn't just be battling to be strong like Leon. This gave him room to grow in another direction.
Hau was raised in happy smile town by Hala, and his response to being related to a regional strong authority figure is the opposite of Hop's. He half assed his fights and was cheery irregardless of what happened. He originally gave no shit if he lost, to the detriment of his team, just so he could keep feeling happy. He did not want to restructure his team at all unlike Hop despite the fact that he could gain major advantages. Like when he gave away a rare z-crystal solely because he never planned on using a lycanroc. His arc was about learning to try his hardest despite the possibility that he could fail. That's why he cried when he lost the first champion fight in ultra. He actually went all out and was, for the first time, sore that he lost. That stings, but it only strengthened Hau's direction of becoming a strong trainer. Now he wants to get strong and win.
