I still have a buneary with a reclusive mark and a shiny Vulpix ( which I will never evolve ) which were gifts from my gf, and a shiny magikarp from my friend who I used to talk with in college traded for a shiny Shellder I had.
Unless you know the person, it doesnt really matter.
