Well if you can get a hold of (or if you want to play on emulator), I honestly recommend FireRed or LeafGreen. It's the start of the franchise, but isn't plagued with bugs or broken battle mechanics like the originals are. Also only has the first 151 during the main story, so isn't overwhelming with tons of Pokemon to choose from for someone who isn't familiar to the series.

if you want the old gen1 feel but without being cancer gets red++ its a rmhack of gen1 with more modern/updated gameplay.

i'd recommend starting with the gba games though so either emerald or frlg

Play red, then gold or silver, then emerald, then platinum, then white or black, then x or y, then you'll probably have stopped playing by now.

other tedious things these are the ones that annoy me the most, haven't tried playing gen1 in a while but dropped it because these became annoying. I dont mean kanto as a whole since fire red and leaf green are good just the original gameboy games

Oh yeah, Pokemon Gaia is also an amazing game for newer players too.
It's a simple RomHack, with modern mechanics like Megas, split etc.

ok then by this logic gen 4 is shit because I need to save a lot of data every time I use the PC, I can't use the PC anywhere, the bag scrolling speed is slow, I need to use HMs, TMs only work once, there are random encounters, I need to hold B to run, and OP should just skip to playing LGPE or gen 8 because they're the least tedious to play

For someone completely new to the franchise...play these in order

1. Fire Red/Leaf Green
2. Emerald
3. Black/White
4. Platinum
5. Heart Gold/Soul Silver
6. Black 2/White 2
7. X/Y
8. Sun/Moon (note Moon has a gimmick where its day and nights are opposite to real world time)

I didnt buy gen 8 so I'm not sure where is a good place for it other than the trash.

You don't really need to play the gen 1 or gen 2 games. You can play them but they are horribly dated where the only reason to play them over their gen 3 and 4 remakes is if you hold significant nostalgia for them.

If you absolutly must play Red, Blue, Yellow, Gold or Silver, I'd play them as the first two games or the last two

sm/usum, although being pretty unique, are also surprisingly good for beginners
frlg is the most basic pokemon experience and obviously good for beginners
bw is fine for new people too, but play bw2 afterward

If you’re a modern gamer I wouldn’t play anything but gen 7 or 8 first, both are great titles for actual gameplay even if it’s nu Pokémon.
If you like nostalgia you would probably enjoy gen 2 or Emerald, depending on your age
If you want the truly greatest experience then no one here is qualified to tell you which one is best and you’d have to base your decision on mass input, which seems to put Emerald, Platinum, and gen 5 at the top. Sales do not equate to quality, that goes for every single entry in the franchise.
Everything else is great/has its moments. I would steer clear of gen 6 until you’re sure you like Pokémon.

recommended spin offs: Mystery Dungeon Red/Sky Pokemon Collosuem and XD and Pokemon rangers shadows of almia

If accessibility is no problem I recommend playing the drayano versions of the games. He does go overboard in difficulty in some aspects but nothing too hard on a casual playthrough and offers more content which is always better. I also recommend putting in the mystery gift events at the end of each playthrough
