Taking an aquatic creature and making it live in sand instead is one of the oldest fantasy tropes in the book.

Stunfisk is a weird case though since it still lives underwater.

because for some reason they decided to make only shit water type pokemon after gen 3 and these designs were great so they decided to make them ground type instead.
