Gen 6 and forward all have such a diverse Pokémon selection it should be impossible for two players to build the same team, but Kalos had so many usable gift mons that every team ends ip looking more or less the same. From what I've seen a lot of SWSH teams also ends up looking very similiar with Cinderace, Corviknight, Dreadnaw, Grimmsnarl etc, so in practice USUM allows for the best team diversity.

Gen 8 allows for the most, it’s just for whatever reason autismos play these piss easy games but still feel the need to optimize the single player and thus never drop the starter+high leveled early route mons.

I’ve replayed sinnoh so much and with so many different Pokémon. There’s so many great Pokémon that lots of people forget are even in the game. I actually made it a rule for myself to never use the same Pokémon as the rivals in the games. It basically forces you to think more outside of the box when it comes to building your teams.

I'd say the unova sequels have the best distribution since they are similar to XY in the sense that the regional dex contains a lot of mons from previous gens. XY are even better when it comes to this, but like >>47444752 mentioned, many teams end up looking the same because of the gift mons

I just replayed Crystal and decided to only use Johto mons and man, was my teambuilding restricted. I used Quilava/Quagsire/Crobat and a Furret HM slave for almost all of the game, added Heracross at the end just to get some variety, and then rounded out the tean with Raikou for the E4 just so I had a full team. Everything else I wanted to use had garbage movepools (Hoppip line, Gligar), wasn't in Crystal (Flaafy line, Girafarig), or was restricted to postgame (Misdreavus, Larvitar).

USUM is pretty good with that since each route and area can have different encounters in different patches of grass. Allows for more pokemon per route without feeling crowded like Kalos.
