this screenshot is definitely more polished than what they showed us before, but the artstyle is just beyond redeeming
they should have made a game with artstyle similar to xy/oras/lgpe if they didn't want to create sinnoh from scratch
the lighting is really bad too. it makes everything look muddy

No you dumbfuck, this is the same problem as SMUSUM where it's some shitty almagamation that's trying too hard instead of actually being appealing by its own merits.
No one had a problem with the chibi-ish artstyle in LGPE because it was coherent. No one cared about the chibi-ish artstyle in Gens 1-6 because it wasn't trying to be chibi on purpose.
Gen 6 is truly going to be the last time we ever have high fidelity character designs, isn't it?

They were far, far, better than the shit we got in Gen 7. The Gen 7 characters look like gremlins wherein the Gen 6 ones at least did have a modicum of effort put in for the ones that did get modeled.

They had those proportions because of the small screen and limited pixel count in sprites, not because they specifically wanted that, there’s a reason it changed once the screens got bigger and better. Going back to chibi overworld sprites it so they can literally copy/paste the entire game from DS to Switch, at least Zelda had the balls to stylise it like a toy box.

The same way they did in Gens 1 and 2 + LGPE.
Literally all they have to do is decide they're no longer going to pull the stupid narrative bullshit from Gen 7 and make it so the player has some agency to do things the way they want. The series was BUILT on the foundation of the open-world genre at the time, GameFreak is just stubborn and refused to evolve with it and instead went the complete opposite direction for Gen 7/8.

Are you? Gen 7 character designs are compromised by being some in-between stage of chibi and not, whereas the Gen 6 character models all have full proportions.
This is nothing new, people were flinging shit at Gen 7 especially after it was revealed that Wally got seemingly YOUNGER because of the lack of any coherence in the character design for the Alola games.
