I really like Kalos too. The Route 8, Ambrette and Cyllage stretch is probably one of my favorite sequences in any game.

Kalos/Gen 6 was the last time Pokémon felt like Pokémon to me. Personally, I enjoy XY much more than SM or SwSh. Had the game gotten a Z, I feel like it’d be looked at more fondly.

Same. It wasn't even made superfluous by hordes since it provided an interface for you to track the EV count and a way to reset them at no cost.
Still baffles me that Gen 6 is the last time GameFreak ever made it quick and painless to train like that.
