roleplaying is part of the game
following pokemon improve the roleplaying aspect
therefore following pokemon are an improvement upon the gameplay

But you already can do that, you can use Amie/Camp/whatever and there is a whole system made for raising your friendship level with your Pokemon. Following sprites or models do none of that and they're worthless.

Seriously I genuinely don't understand what is so wrong about it. I played both and there's only very few differences between the originals and remakes and they're not even outrageously bad.
