Yes, one of the best handlings of rare pokemon.
See, I genuinely love it when a pokemon is made hard as balls to get. Used to hate it, but recently I added a croagunk to my team in diamond and waiting for it to show up at all, and then putting up with safari zone bullshit just to add it to my team felt really rewarding, and using him right after to pummel the water gym since he had dry skin was the best feeling ever, that was like a year and a half ago and it's actually one of my fondest pokemon related memories

I like the method, but this was the most illogical mon they could possibly have chosen to be rare.

If it was obscure, but guaranteed if you knew what you were doing, like, say, Corsola ALWAYS calls a Mareanie if it calls for help while poisoned, it would be great.
Actually, a lot of the 1% summons would be better handled like that. Like, if Bagon called the Salamence if it was hugely outlevelled or something.

Hmm. More in the way that it only appears due to prey pokémon being in-party or something - yes. The utter randomness of SOS battles spewing one up put me off catching my own, but would like other types of finding pokémon such as that.

The game itself mentions Toxapex actively overhunting Corsola to the point that Corsola need protection.
They stuck pretty close to the inspiration in most ways, which is why the rarity of the mon in the game itself is odd

I prefer them making more elusive areas for catching rare Pokemons like with Lapras in GSC, Bagon and RSE, Gible in DP. But I know it doesn't work in this day and age with the Internet around
