Why can't the mainline games have a new game+ option that lets you transfer your PC boxes to your new game? Is it really that complicated? I want to replay some older titles, but I don't want to obliterate my Pokémon in the process.

Do I really need to transfer all my boxes to home and then start a new game? Would a simple replay feature really dig into the game development costs?

What's the point of ng+ in pokemon games? Do you want route1 encounters to be level 80?

It'd be fun to re-experience routes again, and you wouldn't have to use your overpowered mons from the start if you don't want too. You could breed new eggmons and start the game all over again with different teams, level them up, re-experience gyms, amass items, anything you'd like. It'd be nice to give the games some replayability

I guess new game+ doesn't exist because it is entirely counter to what they aim to achieve with these games? The whole trading system in place does give you an option to preserve your Pokemon and I understand it isn't exactly convenient, but every gen also had some form of mass transfer available as an option. Either in the form of separate games or specific services.

Aside from that I don't think they intended these games to be the kind of thing that simply ends once you clear the story, unlike many other RPGs. They wanted you to keep working towards overarching goals like Pokedex completion, battle facilities and so on. In regards to the Pokdex, a new game+ option could be abusable. Nothing seems to be stopping you from starting over with your old mons and picking a starter you did not choose originally. The same goes for any other choice of Pokemon you had to make in the game, like with fossils and such. The weight of those decisions are almost completely lost when you know you can very easily get the other options later, and it also undermines the value of trading to acquire them which diminishes the community effort aspect of these games the developers want people to experience.

You could say that restrictions could be put in place to prevent any abuse but at that point it seems to be more trouble than its worth. Is replaying a Pokemon really all that worthwhile that it needs to be an available option on every game? I'm not so certain. I would rather have gym leader rematches with updated teams in the post game instead of simply fighting them again as they were on the first playthrough. Same goes for the rivals and other major characters. Going through the routes all over again and experiencing the story again might be nice sometimes, but I would say if you are willing to put forth the effort to restart and replay the entire game then you may as well use the services available to you to simply store your Pokemon.

It was tedious. There was no mass transfer before Bank.

People already restart the game to get the other starters and choice-exclusive mons so this isn't changing anything. They might as well just make use of the NG+ feature. Digimon Cybersleuth did it and it's also a monster collecting game with multiple post-game sidequests and online play just like Pokémon.

Within generations there were. Pokemon Stadium 1 and 2 allowed it for their respective generations. Generation 3 had a similar deal with Pokemon Box, Colosseum and Gale of Darkness. Generation 4 admittedly made it more restrictive but you had stuff like Pokemon Ranch. Gen 5 onward you have Bank/Home. As antiquated as these options may be now, they still offered something useful.

I see what you mean. I have done mass transfers before, but they've always been extremely tedious. I've played other creature collectors, and a NG+ option has always been a welcome feature for me. Pokemon strikes me as a good game where it makes sense to apply it since its whole schtick has always world exploration with your companions. Having the option to start over without losing your mons with a simple click of a button seems like a straightforward feature in that scenario. Ultimately I wish we had the feature, but I'm aware that a NG+ would give more agency to the player and that would cut their profits. GF knows people get attached to their mons, and they're willing to pay extra in order to keep them via Bank/ Home.

Newgame+ could be a really cool experience with some actual thought put into it. It doesn't have to be level 80 Rattatas on route 1.

However, even that would be fun. If we're assuming you're keeping your same PC and money and items while starting a NG+... why the hell not? Let's add level 40-50 rattatas since the start, you're supposed to have everything at your disposal so make it fun. And now the Gym leaders would have full teams starting since level 60 or so and go up to 100.
Numbers can be changed, but ideally it'd be similar to the E4 since Gym 1

I just played platinum for the first time and one of my bros was a male combee named Senator Hex. I love him to death but I'd like more than a borderline scripted context sequence to do with him.

because it's a multiplayer game and most people aren't autistic enough to enjoy replaying the campaign just to fight the same piss easy npcs again
