In my headcanon, Red had caught all 151 Pokemon shortly after defeating Blue. Following his capture of Mewtwo & Mew, he went on to Johto to collect more Pokemon & compete in the local gym challenge, getting all of them except for the legendaries, who were caught by Gold/Kris. So his team could be anything, really.
