N was more of a rival since he was battled several times in BW.

If anything it pissed off a lot of older fans because they could only use new Pokémon in Black and White if they didn't do the Dream Yard or Pokétransfer. BW2 gave us some old Pokémon but it lacked a lot of iconic older ones just being shitmons are unremarkable stuff like Zubat and Rattata.
