>>47480580I really think gen 5 was the last from what would be called golden age. From Platinum to B2W2 is my golden age, D/P is a inferior product and I can't bring myself to defend it whatsoever. Emerald, gen 1 remakes and gen 2 games feel better than gen 4 to me. Gen 6 was like Gen 4 initially, a very awkward graphic jump. The issue was that unlike Gen 4 they didn't try to make a improved version to fix the issues in gen 6 and instead just followed with gen 3 remakes, that are easily the worst remakes in the franchise until today. And it was by choice, imagine if they never marketed the Delta Episode. It would be the single best surprise in the game.
Modern pokemon has many flaws, but the biggest one is that there is nothing to discover naturally in game. Every place is a hallway devoid of thought, everything has to be given to the player in the main storyline with a ton of unskippable cutscenes and it gets boring really fast.
I had hopes with gen 7, they tried to fix most of the issues with gen 6 other than the engine itself. And USUM is easily the best game released since B2W2, and still is to this day the best modern pokemon release.
>>47480357You can, and should criticize Gen 5, just like every other gen. Just don't be dishonest about it. Every gen has flaws, even the games I treat as golden age have their flaws in my eyes. I'm not mentioning the flaws here because it will break the character limit and I'm too lazy to write 2 phoneposts.
