The new ones are bad not because of looking humanoid, but because they stopped being animals and on top of looking far too sentient they also get tacked on roles like Spy, Wrestler or Magician that make them feel far too capable for this series, that's more of a Digimon thing.
I can't imagine Delphox or Incineroar having animal cries, it looks like they'll start talking about why you shouldn't do drugs and selling you their brand's cereal at any minute.
Machoke or Blaziken were also humanoid but their designs were consistently animalistic, I can't imagine them speaking English. Machoke is clearly just a retard that grunts and the Pokedex specifies that Machamp's arms get tangled if it tries to use them for anything that requires dexterity, the whole Macho line was peak humanoid because it never stopped feeling like a beast - that thing only exists to bulk up and can't do anything else nor carry out complex commands, Alakazam could but he's the peak 5000 IQ Psychic besides Mewtwo .
Even Mr. Mime is creepy because despite the human face you can tell he's still a Pokémon imitating people and he can't actually talk and think like a person.
Conkeldurr is the macho line done wrong, in Nu-Pokemon style. He's another strong kid that evolves into a super bulky Pokéman... but somehow this one exists to work for construction? Huh? He even carries the metal bar from the very beginning in stark contrast to something like Hitmonchan.
Hitmonchan is a great counter example - the Hitmon line specifically exists because of exposing Hitmontop to different fighting styles with help of its human trainer, so it's not a stretch that Hitmontop develops boxing gloves since supposedly he experienced boxing.
Nu-Pokemon would have Hitmonchan being born as the, I don't know, Boxing Tree Pokémon. A tree that loves boxing, yes he was born thay way.
About that, Machop also starts out like a simple lizard but trains with humans.
