So what exactly determines if a punch is Normal Type or Fighting Type. What makes a Punch Normal as opposed to Fighting; is one imbued with uh, Normal energy instead of Fighting energy which is...well I don't fucking know that's why I'm asking.

Skill I guess. Dizzy punch is seemingly pretty haphazard seeing as how it debuted with spinda. Mega punch is an all out punch with only 80 power and shit accuracy to boot. Seems like an unskilled move.

Yes. That's also the difference between something like Iron Tail and Dragon Tail; one uses Steel energy, the other uses Dragon energy.

That doesn't explain the different type match-ups

It's the energy used that give moves different attributes.
