I love most of them to death, but if I had to choose it'd probably be gen 3 or 4. I also quite enjoyed gen 6.

I don't think I've ever played a gen 5 hack. Are they good? I'm usually a gbafag when it comes to hacks.

I like Platinum and BW2. But I'm not a zoomer.
Favorite music/aesthetic is GSC
The only fan hack I ever completed was Radical Red which was pretty good though flawed and boring in a lot of ways

Gen 3. It wasn't my first game, but it's definitely the first time I've become more aware of what I'm playing as far as Pokemon goes that is.
So it pretty much shapes my opinion of Pokemon since then, even when going back to the first two gen.

Haven't gotten too far in White but I like the story and character interactions a lot more. Being restricted to only Unova Pokemon is also more fun considering by this point I would've just picked up a Magnemite, Azurill/Marill, and/or Growlithe.

Emerald. My parents bought it for me on the NA release month and I've replayed it so many times since, and yet I still find out things about this game to this day that surprise me. A lot of this was covered in that "RARE FACTS" thread a couple of days ago:

Explorers of Time/Darkness/Sky is my favorite spinoff, I don't know why fans of the main games consider it a slog to play when it feels more like an RPG than the mainline pokemon games sometimes. I love preparing loadouts, building specialized teams, planning ahead for perilous expeditions and using items to get my way out of tough situations. For me, doing stuff like this makes me feel more immersed in the world. Yeah, the 99F dungeons are needlessly long, except for the zero isles where it feels necessary as a completionist's challenge.

I love Platinum a lot. I played Pearl so much back in the day, that when I heard about a 3rd version, I knew I wanted to play it as soon as it released. It takes DP's flaws, and gives some update it so deserves.

Gen 1 remains to be my favorite. Something about its antiquated design and minimalistic nature keeps me coming back to it. I adore the original spritework and the Pokemon are all timeless. To this day it is my go to game for when I want to try getting back into playing Pokemon at all. While I do have legitimate criticisms about it, much of it is easy to understand and accept. Many of the things people do consider genuine flaws are mostly seen as charming quirks from my perspective. Combing it with the first Stadium game practically makes it a masterpiece in my eyes. I can concede that future gens have made many improvements, but it is this one I have the least amount of problems with on a fundamental level.

It is a noticeable improvements from the original Black 2.
There are two versions: the vanilla hack, and the 1.1. I'm playing the 1.1 where it has some changes to a lot of Pokemon's BST and moveset.

They are great, updates some movesets and bst of some pokemon, like puttibg egg moves in their level learn set. Theres also a version without those changes, but its a good difficulty hack either way, doesnt make the game ball bustingly hard but makes you think about your team and cover your bases

Based. No wonder there's a constant hate for them from the nügen fans. They're jealous.
I love the ranger series, but they break my ds's touch screen. Also minimal replay value. It just gets boring quick. What do you like, OP?

BW2 (Black 2 specifically) for me, though I feel like BW deserves some credit too as some of that enjoyment is getting see the progression of the region and characters that BW set up.
Aside from that and the other stuff that BW introduced that I like (such as the overworld graphical style, seasons, the new Pokemon, and the region itself) it's got a lot of neat new areas, and a lot of side stuff I like such as the PWT, medals, and hidden grottoes as well as the QoL changes like the repel prompt and habitat list.

To be honest, OP, I'm not too sure myself. I haven't played through all of the most recent games yet, as I've only recently started to get back into pokemon. I found Platinum was actually a lot of fun, so it's probably a toss-up between that and HG/SS. Emerald's been fun for me as well, though, as I've finally gotten to playing through it for the first time.
