been marathoning pokemon games for the first time and I've noticed such a huge quality difference from hgss to these games what's up with that

hgss was in the old gen 4 engine, while 5 is a new one, so of course they're better

I started BW2 after years of not playing Pokémon, tried to also play Platinum and it's imposible, feels ancient compared to BW.

To be totally honest, any video game made before 2013 is completely unplayable antiquated garbage. Really weird how so many games from that archaic era are so blindly worshiped... but in a year or so, every video game made before 2019 will fall into the poorly aged category as well. I am sorry. The passage of time simply allows for superior products to emerge while the old ones become horribly outdated and obsolete.

The graphical upgrades in the overworld were massive. The cutscenes looked their best here. Battling is so much more refined than the previous generation. The sound quality jump was amazing and sounded like a new device. Human sprites can turn their head. It feels like these games were actually ambitious. Sure, you may hate the end result, but by not encourage them to continue in that direction the fanbase basically gave a big old middle finger to any future development effort.

Actually yes I too feel it was ahead. Feels like the real 3DS Pokémon game we should have gotten instead of XY and SM. The sprites already move and stand out very nicely. The world doesn't look. bad at all, I am impressed at the gyms. Series should have continued in that direction.

But yes I'm playing it on my 3ds and sometimes forget it's a DS game.

They gave effort. It's all downhill from there. XY made it not so steep, and then extremely steeper in gen 7, and finally you hit rock bottom with gen 8.

Nice digits but only 4 could be argued to be superior to Gen 5 since they're mechanically very similar and 4 has a better narrative. Gen 2 is like, aesthetics, and that's it.

you mean the battles being faster but literally everything else in the game being worse like the uglier 3D graphics, not being able to run automatically anymore, and the touch screen being useless 95% of the time?
