To me, it is a really beautiful region, modernity and antiquity are intermingled like Johto but in a different way, some places and routes evoke nostalgia as well, this feeling is helped by the orchestated melodies.
Another thing in particular that I like about this region is, while seasons don´t change in the same way that Unova, the journey is in clock sense and the seasons still there in the correct order, Vaniville and Route 4 are Spring, Route 7 and Cyllage City are Summer, Route 15 - 16 and Laverre are Autumn and finally, Snowbelle is winter.

I really enjoyed the variety of Pokémon you could choose from on each playthrough. While the EXP share is broken and retarded, it enabled me to rotate teams through a group of sometimes 18 Pokémon. Mono-type challenges, nuzlockes, and just chill playthroughs were a lot of fun to do. Since the post game was shitty, playthroughs were the only thing really worth it imo.

Another thing I can say I like about Kalos is the fact I can use wathever the Pokémon I love without thinking that much, I appreciate using my dream team in this game without the feeling that is really bad and I have to change it, that in consonance with the Amie its really nice, with this feature you can interact with your mons and connect with them in a way aside from battles.

I'm not a kalosfag by any means, but in all honesty the games aren't the worst ever. they're mediocre and boring, which makes them not the most enjoyable, but holy fuck are they perfect for replays due to the enormous regional dex. sucks that it kind of shoots itself in the foot by putting 20 pokemon on one route, half of which are shitmons and maybe 4 of which you'll regularly encounter, making nuzlockes a bit of a nightmare. also, the game is stupid pretty for such an early 3ds title and sort of stand out among the newest titles in the series (sm-swsh) due to trying to be stylized instead of weirdly realistic.

The seasons thing is true but I have a hard time appreciating it since none of it makes any geographical sense and winter just kinda turns off briefly at the end too. The pattern is there but it’s not done too well in my eyes

It felt like a huge step up to me because of the obvious graphical shift, megas, customization, online, breeding changes, and the biggest regional dex to date. Now of course some of these things didn’t stand the test of time- megas were pretty pointless aside from fanservice and handled rather poorly in the long term, and while the 3d models were at least to me impressive and fresh at the time, they have become extremely stale and recycled since.

Still, I really think 2013-2014 was one of the more exciting times to be a Pokemon player and that’s all due to the good ideas and changes in XY. It’s still a fun game to revisit and as others have said a cool region. My honest longshot hope whenever we don’t know what Game Freak’s doing next is that they’ll pull a Z version out of their ass.

Crazy Pokemon variety. Best early-game pacing. Comfiest cities and towns (especially Laverre). Best gym designs (dollhouse, space, rock climbing, vine swinging, huge spider web etc.). Smug atmosphere where you can become nobility and tip the plebs. Rollerblading is fun.

Gen VI could have easily been one of the best if they fixed the pacing after the first 4 gyms, included a couple of extra routes, added more post-game stuff and bumped up the difficulty a bit to compensate for the exp share buff and huge dex. The region has a great aesthetic and has the largest explorable city in the main games, plus it has a great soundtrack. Considering the fact that the region is based on France, it's surprising how there is no cycling road route and contests as they would have gone well with the culture they were trying to replicate.

This is true to all mainline. Never met someone building a meta team for those. They either pick what they like or go with starter and legendary.

And about music/art those are pretty much subjective. Gen 6 tracks don't really do it for me. But I understand that people like it for some reason other than "nostalgia". Good thread guys.

The super training being available so early was great. Allowed me to fully EV a team when I put the time in and gave items useful for evolution.
Genuinely the only time a generation could have actually done with a new version. XY they had a lot to do and even back then they didn't hide behind the model excuse.

Pretty accurate. They're both built very similarly with only 1 HM being required throughout the story and the rest being relegated to optional areas.
I don't really like Kalos, at all. But I can still appreciate it for being the last time we ever saw the National Dex or Triples and Rotation Battles.
Maybe if SM picked up where Gen 5 and 6 left off then I wouldn't have as much reason to like XY since there would be a better option to play one of the newer games. Still, it's hard to not point out that Unova is still better in every single way.
