the order is different for everyone but Emerald has the respectable third spot in my opinion.
Hoenn remakes shouldve been in the fifth gen, then it would be perfect.

There's no way it could be the best when it was the first generation that took away beloved features from the previous.

The games received the correct amount of controversy when they came out, IMO.

The Golden Era (3/4/5), is kept by a persistent power struggle.
Generation 5 has graphics and linearity as the problem.
Generation 4 has slow battle engine.
and Generation 3 has obsolescence.

This is the only reason that if there exists a Platinum / HGSS game with generation 5's engine and generation 3's Emerald story quality, it would literally become the best Pokemon game ever.

The hard streak based Battle Frontier with 31 IVs at the technical 'completion' level made this so much more fun than middle IV 'completion' level that Platinum had. My only complaint is that IVs were still hard to get if you didn't RNG manipulate at all.

Playing the gen III games in 2021 means you have access to every Pokemon, playing gen VIII in 2021 still does not guarantee that.

Most people say Stadium 2 counts as G/S postgame, and if that is the case Kanto/Sevii counts as a second region to explore, not even mentioning that Hoenn is already pretty big compared to Johto.
All of the rest of your complaints are valid but I literally do not know of a single person that looked at the Pokegear in gen II and said, "oh man, I wish Youngster Chad would call me to talk about his Rattata again".

1 and 2 are the only good Gens. 3 was the last time they tried. Every other Gen after is dulled down shit and anyone who disagrees wasn't alive when Pokemon came out; and if they were, they're 30 year old brand loyalists who never moved on to bigger or better franchises.

Started with gen 4 here, I actually agree, I bought and played sapphire between the release of diamond and platinum and loved it. At the time I loved gen 4 more but I've come to recognize gen 3 as superior, tho gen 2 gives it a run for it's money

im 27 and i really think gen 1 was the peak, gen 2 and 3 dont fall far behind, and although they are technically, artistically and mechanically superior i think they have pacing problems that gen 1 just doesnt have.

Same age as you and I agree verbatim lol. I had the realization recently that gen 1 is just really well rounded and realized. The only true flaw I can put my finger on is the lack of post game, but you do have mewtwo I suppose and post game really wasn’t something they were considering at the time. Everything else is tight and well paced. Gen 1 still holds up for a reason.
