It's easy to level mons in gen 5, so mons evolve later. There are Audino in every route that has grass, you get bonus exp for battling against stronger pokemon, etc.

BW had the philosophy of introducing new Pokemon every route. It also had the philosophy of letting you have every Pokemon for around 10 stages before it evolves, so you don't get a Pokemon and have it immediately evolve. Avoids shitty situations like Jangmo-o where you get it, level it twice and already have Kommo-o.
Rufflet and Vullaby just drew the short stick and ended up being introduced as late route Pokemon, which would be fine if they just had higher stats. Braviary in particular doesn't have much use.

you can throw gible, bagon, jangmo-o, etc anywhere in a future game and it's fine because they evolve at reasonable levels
meanwhile deino will NEVER be fully evolved before postgame unless you overlevel the hell out of it, which is actually an example of trash design

Even if you could catch it relatively early in the game, keeping it at a first stage until level fifty-fucking-four is terrible. By comparison Dragonair evolves into Dragonite at 55 and it's a pseudo-legendary who you generally won't be able to access before the E4 without heavy grinding.

GF just need to take their heads out of their asses and lower their evolution levels. It wouldn't even be the first time they've done this, dragonair and pupitar used to evolve at level 33 instead of 30.

I don't agree, I think they should go in the opposite direction and raise evolution levels across the board. Things go by too quickly in the games and lose any sense of meaning, with a lot of Pokemon essentially not existing because you only have them for a few levels. A longer main game and more time with each stage would be a much more satisfying experience overall.

You get a fully evolved but mediocre dragon/fighting pseudo but with barely any EVs (compared to a bagon that'd have to be rigorously trained to evolve) against a totem kommo-o that will outspeed and 1 shot it and an E4 with a ghost and flying specialist
it's a bit like butterfree or beedrill or something that evolves early but has obvious flaws that become apparant later

All pseudo legends were made with some sort of stipulation in mind:
>dratini isn't too hard to find (or even buy) but has no STAB
>you get larvitar 0.5 seconds from the actual end of the entire game
>bagon is way out in the boonies, beldum is postgame only and stuck with takedown
>gible is in a practically invisible cave
>deino doesn't fully evolve until you're living in a retirement home
>goomy sucks
>jangmo-o shows up right before a trial that would push its shit in and also sucked at the time of its introduction
>dreepy is impossibly rare (unless you wonder trade, but let's assume you didn't pay for online), has no moves, and doesn't fully evolve until level 60

The entire upside of kommo-o (at the time) was that it was instantly a functional party member. Bagon is a much longer investment and is better at the end of it in game as a result.

BW2 fixed this shit a bit by giving you a Braviary just north of Castelia, but the level 54 evolution was never acceptable. That's the same level as Ghetsis' Hydreigon, so you'll basically not even have it until the post-game in BW1; meaning you're stuck with the shitmon that is Rufflet at the one point in the game where you don't want to be using first-stage NFEs.
Rufflet should evolve at level 35 latest, not fucking level 54, that's completely unacceptable.

Likely why they alleviated the issue somewhat in BW2 by giving him the old "Lapras" treatment

Also, the line should've been part fighting. It's a Native American warrior bird, and we already had the boring normal flying mon for the dex in Pidove. Could've been based with learning stuff like Close Combat, which could be utilized alongside its DW ability Defiant.

gen 1 did it the best where pretty much the entire pokedex is available after the 3rd gym if you know where to look. Gen 5 is incredibly linear so a lot of pokemon are forced to late game only.

Noibat is such a weird case.
It's meant to be a Pokemon that "looks like a shitmon at first glance" but you level it up once and find out it's not a shitmon but they fucked that all up since Noivern was one of the early Gen 6 Pokemon revealed so everyone knew of this.
But then in the subsequent generation games, you can find Noibat right at the beginning of the game so the "pseudo shitmon" just ends up being an actual shitmon.

The late evo lvl alone wouldn't have been that much of an issue to me if the end game fights weren't lower than it. At least in the first games. If the pokemon evolves at a slightly higher lvl than the e4 or a much higher lvl like Volcarona or Hydreigon, then feels shitty having their pre-evolved forms cause you either don't get to use them till endgame or have them over-leveled and trivialize any challenge.
I'd honestly prefer them not being available at all until post game if their evos are that high.
Also Deino not even reaching it's second form till 50 is absolutely ridiculous.

It's not even that it evolves late, it's that it sucks for its evo time too. It's not nearly the worst thing out there but it's not evolve at 54 good. I mean they give you a fucking mole that goes god mode much earlier, they give you the rape ape that evolves at 37, I mean shit me man. Unova in general has this problem. Fucking ice cream is fully evolved at level 47, it has no moves, a shitty typing and a pitiful movepool. The gears are fully evolved at 49, it sucks too, it has no moves. That'd be like giving you a Caterpie midway through R/B instead of near the start of the game and making it evolve into Butterfree at 45. Why would you do that?

i love Unova but the evolution levels fucking suck. i know you unlock the eastern half of the loop in the postgame but it's still not worth it to have late-game mons evolve so damn late. Ghetsis, the final boss of the main story, has a level 54 as his ace. Rufflet EVOLVES at level 54.

Probably for the postgame, but if you want to use it enough before that, you'll put in the work and by the end you'll love that little guy all the more.

It's an anomaly, but it's harmless. Reminds me of how Gen 1 would give you your fossil around the 7th Gym mark if you surfed from Cinnabar and looped to Pewter.

Please don't try to justify gamefreak's awful design decisions by saying they're just quirky flaws to balance the pokemon.
Dratini has no STAB because the original games were an awful mess riddled with bugs and horrible decisions everywhere.
Salamance in the original games was dogshit when compared to literally any other pseudo.
Making goodra awful in every way isn't exactly what I'd call an intelligent decision.
Jangmo-o evolves instantly because the final island was a rushed mess, and the following trial does not in fact push its shit in because it's faster and can OH-ko everything in it.
