>>47512054Oldfags say it's bad because certain Pokemon had movepools and stats that depended on the type-based split. Gen 3 Pokemon got shafted the hardest, I think. Look at Sceptile, for example. 85 Attack, 105 Special Attack, Grass type is special. Primarily a Special Attacker, yeah? A decent in-game moveset might be Dragon Claw, Hidden Power if the coverage is good and Pursuit if it isn't, maybe Quick Attack or Giga Drain, and its then-signature move Leaf Blade. Dragon, Dark, and Grass are all Special types, so it's working off that 105. Then the split happens, and a lot of Sceptile's movepool switches from special to physical, and Sceptile doesn't have the attack prowess it used to. It can't even properly use its signature move anymore. We look at its Gen 8 movepool, and its still primarily a physical movepool. Your special options are Leaf Storm if you don't mind the SpA drop or Giga Drain if you do, Dragon Pulse and Focus Blast from TRs, and then Swift or Round for fuck's sake. Swords Dance, Dragon Dance, and Screech, but no Calm Mind or Nasty Plot. Work Up, is all you get if you want to boost Special Attack. Go ahead and look at all the physical moves it gets, though, primarily through level up.
