>>47522881I mean, it was directed by a guy who barely has anything to do with video games, and made one of his programmers cry when he dictated Giygas' words for him to put in the game. It's also the game that isn't super great to play moment to moment (especially at the start) and has to carry everything with the setting and writing (to the point where everyone says you have to get to Threed to really start liking it, which is true but that's a lot of investment). I will say though, the ending where you can travel the world you just saved is something most game designers wouldn't exactly think of, and I think is easily the strongest element of the game. I still think Mother 3 is way better though, everything is way more tight in general.
>>47522913People say turn based RPGs are outdated, but I've always maintained it's a design decision. After all, more action orientated games existed before turn based RPGs on computing devices, RPGs themselves evolved from war games, and even Chess and other real life turn based games are that way for a reason. But that having been said, JRPGs usually aren't the highlight of RPGs in general. I mean I like them, but I was also trained wrong because my first three were Pokemon, Super Mario RPG, and SaGa 2 (when it was Final Fantasy Legend 2 that one time). I guess it really comes down to taste, which is a lot of video games really. What do you think is your strong suit, both from the technical and and what you're thinking about when you make a decision? Even though I don't know much about making games on a technical end, I like to think I've got some idea of the decision making process of why something is the way it is, or at least how it should be.
