what happened to non-linearity with gyms and being able to do certain ones in different orders? in gens 3 and 5 specifically (im not even trying to bring them up for the haha funny shitting on it, but because they truly are the biggest examples of missed opportunity with this), there are so many places where they could have made you do one before the other, but they just dont
even in gen 7 with the island trials, having the three of them in akala being the fire/water/grass trio in typing and having their areas all be accessible from the start, it feels like theyre made to be done in their own order
