Canada/America have superficial similarities due to cultural proximity, but they actually do differ on quite a bit on things which actually matter, ie healthcare, crime rate, education, etc. Canada has more in common with mainland Europe, and even Japan due to the culture of "politeness" which is actually a bill there.
Actually, calling Canada a more western version of Japan may not be too far off the mark.
