What's funny is that Ash probably would have lost anyways since he spent more most of the later episodes of the season dicking around instead of training, but the why things turned out it Ash would have been fucked either way. And the worst part is that everyone loses. Ash was humiliated (in front of possibly the entire country since this is a televised event), Ritchie didn't get the awesome battle he wanted from Ash, and the audience (both in show and real-life) got screwed out of an entertaining battle.
