Would you play a GBC ROM hack with these four as the Starters?

They would have their movesets and evolution methods tweaked obviously.

No, that's shit. Geodude has nothing to do there, he is not effective against any of them, neither is Machop, Abra gets both Machop and Gastly. It makes no sense.

Cool. The "theme" of the hack is to have gameplay more along the lines of Gens 1 and 2, rather than 3+. In the sense that you are just a regular trainer going on an adventure, no imminent threat from the Gods of time and space or whatever. There will be less story involvement and more ways to tackle the main campaign (open Gyms etc.). I'm just sick of seeing ROM hacks/fangames go over the top in every aspect in effort to impress. Even Prism was a bit too much for me. My hack will be a return to form.

Gengar doesn't have levitate, so if you had just Machamp/Gengar/Golem then it would work out.

It's called teambuilding and not ungabunga-ing the entire game with your starter. You should try it out, sometime. It's pretty fun

The most story I'm planning to have is the evil team being a bunch of thieves that are going around stealing treasures and artifacts around the Region and selling them. Nothing more than that. Also, your rival is a boy who ran away from the evil team because he didn't agree with their actions and wanted to become a real Pokémon trainer. I hope that's not too much. I don't wanna go overboard with the characters like in Gen 7.
Not sure who the cover mascots will be yet, but I'm thinking Alakazam and Gengar respectively (like what Gen 1 did with Charizard and Blastoise), because the game will be two versions, Mind & Spirit, and Alakazam and Gengar fit these two titles perfectly.

Also, the third version will be "Pokémon Trinity", or something along those lines, as in the trinity of mind, body, spirit (Alakazam, Machamp, Gengar). Maybe I should get rid of Golem because it doesn't really fit? What do you think?

If this is a gen 2 hack, I'd vote against Abra, maybe Ghastly too. The former can learn all the elemental punches and get recovery, pair it with Larvitar for a broken starter set. Machop could change to Tyrogue, so players can pick 3 final evos that are not as broken.

1. It's Gen 2
2. Gengar needs Cursed Body. Both to keep it balanced and because it made no sense for Gen 1 and 2 to have it be weak to Ground but Gen 3-6 to have it be immune to Ground. With the exception of Seaking, I don't think there's another Pokémon line that's been weak to a type and then later become immune to it.
