>>47552248>Further proof that gen 2 detractors either didn't fucking play the gamesPretty much this. Most of the things that get complained about are either common in all Pokemon games, exaggerated, or just plain wrong.
They claim that Johto is "too small" but that's only true if you completely ignore all the side areas. Also, there are several daily/weekly events meaning you actually have a reason to go to an area more than once.
Thy complain about Kanto being barren, but most of the stuff removed from Kanto was unnecessary since Johto had equivalent places that severed their purpose better. Oh and they literally couldn't fit anymore into the cartridge.
The level curve is highly exaggerated. If you're too high a level you can switch you team around, and if you're too low level there are ways to grind (rematches by phone calls, the trainer house, or even the SS Aqua. Though I agree with them when they say wild Pokemon should be stronger but it only by 10 levels at most.
Also, people who complain about Red being "too high a level" really need to play another RPG. He's literally a secret boss found where "only the strongest trainers are allowed". He should be difficult, and even then its entirely possible to beat him with you team at level 60 if you understand the mechanics of the game.
I also agree when they say there should be more Gen II mons really but that's also exaggerated. The only most of the issue is due to trade evolutions, version exclusives, its admitted more noticeable in Johto because so few new mons were introduced. And once again tech limitations means no more could have fit, because Game Freak actually was a small indie company at the time.
