Ketsuban says hello. I think the fossil ones won't crash the game and the back sprite in some versions of the Japanese games are okay too.
Having said that, Missingno. looks different in different localizations of the game. That may make Game Freak not want to put it in. Also they would never do something that the fans actually want.

MissingNo. was a big enough drop in the bucket for there to be news articles and official notices/warnings from Nintendo about it at the time, and it remains one of the most referenced parts of generation 1 (in particular as opposed to the many other versions of Kanto) in the fandom. However, as tempted as they seem to be to call back to KANTOOOOOOOO at every turn, to acknowledge MissingNo. is to acknowledge one of Game Freak's most visible and obvious mistakes. It seems that even GF is capable of having a little shame once in a while; to have not even put a little cheeky reference to Cinnabar's eastern coast anywhere is a sign that perhaps they consider the topic verboten.
