Ledian should be buffed. At least spread out it’s stats. It doesn’t need that much special defense. Unless there are contests, the game solely revolves around battles. Why there is such a shit pokemon makes no fucking sense

No, no player should be punished for using a pokemon they like. All pokemon should, to an extent, have a good chance in every aspect of battling since in most games that’s all there is to do. There is no point in making a pokemon so fucking shit at battle when all there is to do is battle. “It teaches about evolution” So does the fucking caterpie line and they are still useable in a playthrough. Ledyba doesn’t evolve until the late teens. It makes no sense to “teach about evolution” when other pokemon evolve earlier, like the starters

Game Freak buffed the Gen 1 starters just as much as every other starter. Aka: Not at all

I don't count those as buffs, desu. Even if they were buffs to the Pokemon, other generations of starters got the same/similar buffs

About the best thing any of the Gen 1 starters got was Blastoise getting Shell Smash. Other than that, the Gen 1 starters have recieved very little over the years

Feraligatr is actually one of the better starters, competitively speaking. Mainly because of it's Sheer Force ability
Getting rid of this would just make Feraligatr worse. Unless you're suggesting it should have both Sheer Force and Strong Jaw

Strong Jaw would just straight-up be worse for Feraligatr. There's no Water-Type biting move, meaning Feraligatr would have none of it's STAB's boosted by this ability. Even if that were the case, Sheer Force would still work better with Feraligatr's current movepool, anyway

If you just want to replace Defiant, I would give it Slush Rush. This would make Empoleon one of the few non-Ice-Types able to abuse Hail
If you're instead going to give Empoleon two abilities + one HA, I would keep Defiant on top of giving it Slush Rush. I'd rework it's stats to make it a physical attacker and improve it's physical movepool. I've always thought Empoleon should've been a physical attacker. It's design suggests it would be more of a physical attacker, with it's bladed flippers. At least in my opinion

There's no reason not include megas or giga, those are things are part of the Pokemon. Even without the special snowflake forms, all you need to do is compare the movepools and hidden abilities of the Kanto and Johto starters (since they were release around the same time) to see the blatant KANTOOO favoritism (the only outlier is Feraligatr getting Sheer Force).

Maybe. Charizard has Solar Power, which combined with the existance of Stealth Rocks and it's mediocre stats, makes Charizard not survive on the field for very long. It also still has a mediocre special movepool, if just slightly better than Typhlosion's
Gen 1 starters are consistently better, but Gen 2 starters have higher highs (in the form of Feraligatr)

Empoleon is mostly used as a special attacker, due to it's significantly higher SpAtk stat. Despite it's Defiant ability, it is almost never used as a physical attacker. Both in Smogon and VGC

That's technically true, but is does that really make up for the other two being virtually useless?

Meanwhile Typhlosion had

Man, I've always hated this dogshit mentality. Not everything has to have 145 speed with Huge Power. Just make it actually usable in any way, or give it a particular niche it can use particularly well, or just simply don't play so hard favorites that some Pokemon end up not even having an ability and some a broken ability + everything else. Magician Delphox vs. Protean Greninja. It's day and night. Literally any ability with a use would have done Delphox better, but they decided to give it the "I'm always double weak to Knock Off!" the ability TM.

Not even a Ledianfag or anything but it's downright criminal that Ledian has base 35 fucking attack but has Iron Fist. At least pretend to give a shit about people who want to use Ledian for longer than the first badge. Wouldn't have hurt to spend more points on attack rather then sp. defense even if its attack is still sub 100. Shit.
